Since March 2, 2020, there had been a significant increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 patients. As a consequent, the need for Ventilators for patient management has increased sharply at many Referral Hospitals and Emergency Hospitals. Ventilators are life support tools that function to provide mechanical breathing assistance for patients, in an effort to maintain the Oxygenation of patients who experience severe respiratory distress.
There are more than 2,850 hospitals throughout Indonesia but only have 8,400 Ventilators, which means there is a shortage of about 20,000 units throughout the nation, for both Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Resuscitator and the Ventilator Transport types. However, the price of imported Ventilators can reach up to or more than 100 million Rupiah per unit. On the other hand, the Government also faces difficulties in procuring it, due to its price and the scarcity of this device caused by the spike in global demand in ventilators, as COVID-19 Pandemic affected most of countries.
PT CERIA NUGRAHA INDOTAMA is a domestic investment company, owner of IUP-OP operating a Nickel mine located in Kolaka Regency – Southeast Sulawesi. The company has joined the call to assist in the procurement of Ventilators as part of social responsibility or CSR programs. By collaborating with the Faculty of Engineering of the UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA (FTUI) and FTUI Alumni, formed UI Ventilator Team, the collaboration has developed 100% Authentic Indonesian-Made Ventilators called COVENT-20. COVENT-20 is a Transport Ventilator with CPAP and Dual-Mode functions. This type has passed the CPAP and Continuous Mandatory Ventilation (CMV) mode tests at the Health Facility Security Center (Balai Pengamanan Fasilitas Kesehatan or BPFK) Ministry of Health of Republic of Indonesia and the IMERI of MEDICAL FACULTY, University of Indonesia.
At this first stage, PT. Ceria Nugraha Indotama through its CSR program donated 1 unit COVENT-20 Ventilator to COVID-19 Referral Hospital, namely Cibinong District Hospital (RSUD CIBINONG) – West Java, and 3 units to Benyamin Guluh Regional Hospital – Kolaka Southeast Sulawesi.
After this Ventilator can operate optimally with proven quality, God Willing, PT Ceria Nugrama Indotama will gradually donate an additional of 100 units of this COVENT-20 Ventilator at the second stage. The Ventilators are to be used in other Referral Hospitals throughout Indonesia as part of the company’s commitment and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). At the same time, the company fully supports the use of medical devices that are produced domestically, Indonesia-made product.
